Leweston celebrates excellent A Levels
Excellent A Level and Pre-U results for Year 13 . . .
During their time in Reception children are offered the best possible learning opportunities through close partnerships between our staff, the children and their families.
All children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. Opportunities offered within the learning environment are developmentally appropriate and children’s interests are included through child and parent input and staff observations. Our ‘key groups’ system enables us to ensure that opportunities offered to all children are tailored to meet their individual needs.
The principles that guide our work within Reception are grouped into four themes within the EYFS. They are as follows:
• A Unique Child: Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
• Positive Relationships: Children learn to be strong and independent from the base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.
• Enabling Environments: The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
• Learning & Development: Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected.
Observation & Assessment (Unique Child)
On-going assessment is an integral part of each child’s learning and development process. Through observation and close working relationships with families, staff can identify children’s current level of progress, along with any areas of development that will be encouraged and supported appropriately.
In addition to the observation and assessment above, staff will complete a progress check for all children within a few weeks of their start in the Reception. This assessment identifies a child’s strengths and plays an important part in helping parents and practitioners to recognise a child’s progress, understand their needs, and to plan activities to support learning.
Leweston understands the importance of play within a child’s learning journey and recognises that play supports intellectual, creative, physical, social and emotional development. Children are offered opportunities to play spontaneously, with support from adults. ‘Freeflow’ is also offered which enables each child to independently choose an indoor or outdoor environment for their learning and play.
