Independent Schools Inspection Report 2015
This summer, Sixth Form girls once again achieved a 100% pass rate, with 78% of A Levels passed at grade A* to B or Pre-U equivalent. 51% of the results were passed at A* or A grades or Pre-U equivalent and 14% passed at A*, both figures being almost double the national average. An impressive 27% of students achieved 3 or more straight A or A* grades across a range of subjects. Average UCAS points per candidate were 387, the equivalent of over three A grades per candidate.
These fantastic results have enabled almost all Leweston’s leavers to win places at their chosen universities or specialist colleges. Many girls will be going on to the more selective institutions including Cambridge, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Nottingham, Bath, University College London, Manchester, Liverpool, Queen Mary’s College London and York to study degrees such as Accounting, Biological Sciences, Economics, Engineering, English, Drama, Mathematics, Medicine, Modern Languages, Music, Natural Sciences, Nursing and Spanish.
It was also another record breaking year for Leweston at AS Level with 73% of examinations passed at grade A or B. Particular areas of strength were Maths, Chemistry, Geography and Spanish. In the latter case all girls achieved an A Grade. One third of the pupils achieved three or more A grades at AS level with one pupil achieving six. The academic success throughout this year group will allow the new Upper Sixth to apply to the most competitive universities.

For an international pupil who joins the Sixth Form, Leweston achieves an average ‘Value Added’ score of one grade at A Level. Value added is a measure of the progress pupils make between different stages of education. If girls perform beyond expectations this will be reflected in a high ‘Value Added’ score. This high score demonstrated Leweston’s ability to add value to each girl’s education and encourage them to perform beyond original expectations.
Over the last few years over 95% of our leavers have won places at their first choice university.
Leweston has a 100% success rate in medicine & veterinary applications over the last 5 years, far above the national independent school average.
Every year over 50% of our leavers go on to study at the Russell group universities.
Our value added consistently places Leweston in the top 5 or 10% of schools nationally. Click here for more information.
