South West Schools Biathle
Over 300 competitors came to Leweston for a fantastic SW Schools Biathle . .
A number of the pupils at Leweston come to us from overseas and whilst these girls are fully integrated into school life, learning and socialising in English, most opt for extra tuition in the English language. This is in the form of subject support as well as preparation for specific Language exams including First Certificate, IELTS and iGCSE in English as a Second Language.
Leweston has over fifty years’ experience of teaching EAL and the Department is staffed by experienced, specialist teachers who work with the girls on the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing at their level. The girls also have the opportunity to take part in inter-school public speaking, as well as a wide range of school based activities such as an International Fair and paired reading.
In addition to timetabled EAL lessons a member of the EAL department is on duty in the boarding houses once a week. Pupils can use this as an opportunity to take work from subject lessons they are struggling with, or to talk about any challenges they face learning in English. This is an informal setting which gives pupils a chance to voice any concerns about their academic work.
