Learning difficulties present challenges for the brightest of students and the Individual Needs Support Unit provides opportunities for each student to realise her potential.
Early assessment allows the school to identify areas of weakness and enables the department to provide each girl with an appropriate and individual teaching programme. Specialist staff deliver structured and multi-sensory lessons for dyslexic students with particular emphasis on improving literacy skills and when applicable numeracy. Pupils do not need to have an identifiable learning barrier to gain from support lessons and our older girls benefit particularly from receiving study skills sessions and practice in examination techniques, enabling confident and successful preparation for both internal and public exams. Close liaison between the Individual Needs department and subject teachers ensures that lessons are targeted and specific to each girl’s needs.
All students with Specific Learning Difficulties are supported and monitored in line with the current SEN Code of Practice.
