Leweston is one of only twelve schools in the country to offer this internationally recognised qualification to its Sixth Form.

The Basic Certificate in Food and Wine is a practical 5 term cooking course designed to run alongside the school timetable at A Level.  Pupils are taught a large number of skills and techniques, such as knife skills, vegetable and meat preparation, baking and sauces, as well as undertaking practical tasks such as time plans for each practical session, menu planning exercises for their level of skill, what to look for when buying ingredients, and basic theory associated with the practical skills used in the course.

Pupils gain confidence in a wide variety of practical skills which can often affect other aspects of life, such as time planning and organisation. At the end of the course, the pupils take an exam devised by Leiths; they are awarded a Leiths certificate. This professional qualification can be used to find employment in a variety of family level cooking jobs. Should any participants decide to take up cooking professionally they would be eligible for the Two Term Diploma at Leiths School of Food and Wine.
